I love it on the track Smash. Anytime I think about something along the lines of "is this going to slow me down ?", I think about stuff like "hey,Nathan Woods says he digs it in motocross", so since it just isn't going to happen that I'll ever be in his league it gives me the big reality check.
What that means is I'm not fast enough to ever have to slip the clutch to pick up rpms for more power at over 4500rpm,and under 4500rpm if I need to I can. What It does is allow me to brake harder without stalling, do the brake slides without stalling, to do anything, anytime without the clutch ever entering my mind, and just like off-road I can concentrate on the right lines without fear of stalling, I just don't worry about the clutch the whole time.
While sure, I can tel myself that I could be working on mastery of the clutch in different situations , I'm 50 and though sadly will never be an off-road or motocross champion (duh !), I know how and when to do what with the clutch.
The lines, the body position, the braking, that's the stuff I need to work on and without a clutch to deal with I can do a better job in those areas, and it allows me to do so with more energy and more of my limited cerebral matter concentrating on those things, not the clutch.
The starts are like cheating, 2nd gear, use the clutch to hold it back while I get to about 4,000 rpm and just dump it (no slipping, just dump it)and go. If the start area is slippery, no clutching at all, just second gear and nail it. Going up hills with directional changes is just like cheating too, man it's nice ignoring the clutch lever.
I know what you mean about getting your bike to rev quickly, and you won't feel like you've lost anything, that's for sure. Originally I was going to install the Rekluse and a flywheel weight on this R, but it runs so darn good without ever stalling I won't be adding the flywheel weight. I can't tell the difference in how it revs with the Rekluse, not on the X and not on the R.
The Rekluse Pro will allow clutch use at all rpms, not just to 4500rpm,and it should be available for the X because the differences between the R and X are very minor , I needed to put in this 15 dollar or so spacer/washer to move it from the X to the R.
If I was starting all over I might get the Pro version, but the original hasn't held me back from anything I need it to do, that's for sure.
I think you'll love the Rekluse for track and trail and never go back. That 30 day money back deal takes all the risk out of trying it except for a couple hours labor.
And you,Smash, are good at mechanical stuff, I've seen your work ! Go get one .

SMASH ! You are good with your hands G-Money,after you install it should you do so if you want to switch back to conventional it will take, seriously, about a half hour .
When I pulled it from my X to sell it it went that fast,no kidding.
Come on man, I want to hear your impression. You need a new experience with this bike and with your passion and hobby , give it a go.You'll fire that up and putt around, you'll start rolling, you'll start smiling and you'll be kicking yourself for waiting so long. :P Doug

Catch and release...I'll weigh in on the rear brake set-up. I've been riding since '69 and got used to the hand brake in 10 minutes. It is a great modification.

I'll bet that would get picked up on pretty fast.

1970 for me,and the Rupp " Black Widow" did have a left handlebar rear brake ! AND a "Torque Convertor' vs. the archaic centrifugal clutch. Hey ! Isn't that what my Rekluse is ? Doug
