On one ride there, that I can remember, the guy I was with took me through some sand "canyons". It looked like where water over many years had carved almost tunnels and the walls were quite close in spots. Anyone know where that spot is in Ballinger?

I used to ride north of town all the time to the palm trees and the green tank which was on the hill above the current mx track at BV hills. Some of the best riding was up Gardner cyn to the microwave relay station south of town. Back in the 70's you could ride all the way to Cuyama if you were so inclined. We used to head over the hill into Elkhorn Valley and over to Reyes Station (on 166 west of Maricopa) to fill up our tanks. Alas, there is a big fence on the top of the Temblors blocking any access to Elkhorn.

That place is decent for what we have left in bakersfield itself. It is better than leaving the bike parked in the garage. Its not as good as any svra but it is a place to ride. I do prefer driving up to gorman when the LPNF is open, or out to the Dez. I also like to go up to Keysville by the lake isabella dam. There is a pretty good trail that goes up to Evans flat off of Rancheria Rd. about 10 miles south of Shirley Meadows. Actually there is a ton of riding all throughout the Alta Sierra Mtns. I have only been there a few times but it was a blast. There is a little too much snow up there for now. Well when i get back into town, which might be a few months i will definately have to hit some of you guys up to do some riding. Oh by the way i am now in La Junta Colorado. The Railroad sucks, well at least BNSF does. ~ Scott

I went out to that place last Saturday and they have the fence all up with the NO TRESPASSING signs up. It might have been a bad place to ride but it sure was handy to go out after work and get a little cardio in (-:

Went out to Comanche and rode and it's not quite as marbly as the Playground in Taft.

I gotta find a good place to ride thats close to the house.....

The earlier photos are from 29, nothing to difficult. their is another ridge trail thats about three feet wide (or so it seems!) pretty hairy with dropoffs on both sides, 48, 49, or 53?
22 is a fun trail down a ravine and one area you have to sqeeze under a fallen tree. The tight sand wash with the high walls is in the back somewhere.
