For those that have not or have not had problems:

    1. What oil did you use? Synthetic or organic or a blend? Honda HP4M and HP Trans red bottle
    2. Do you still have the smog pump hooked up? no
    3. How often did you change the oil? after every trip, average 150 miles; same with air filter
    4. What gas did you run? Pump gas and what octane? If race gas, what motor octane and specific gravity was it? Unleaded or leaded. 91 pump
    5. When you have the valves replaced, did you replace the valve guides and stem seals? If so, with what? Are you seeing deposits on the valve base after the replacement. in the shop for 3rd valve adjust now at 2970 miles and it required maximum shim possible .. had them keep it for rebuild.
    6. What is your weight? How much do you feel you added or subtracted from your bike? 180 without gear; added weight with protection, but lost some with a lighter pipe .... probably added a few pounds
    7. Is your gearing stock? If not, what was the tooth count? yes
    8. Do you run a stock size rear tire? If not what size? Did it grip better than the stock tire? yes

    Thanks for your input.

Waited until the last minute last Friday to do my maintenance before going to Baja Saturday morning and she wouldn't start. I pulled the tank and seat and took it to a riding buddy who runs my local honda shops service for the valve adjust. Just got the news today after going in to pick it up that I need to do the top end. 2970 miles with meticulous maintenance (don't know the hours) except for valve adjustments. I had them adjusted at 100 miles, again at 1554 miles with a minimal adjustment (don't remember exactly) and now at 2970. I am disappointed in having to shell out the bucks, but not in the bike. True, I never had this issue with 2 strokes, but I switched realizing the price of admission.

Kind of funny that some of you never even check the valves and I catch crap from my buddies for being to lax on them.

X has been great in Baja, I'll be keeping it :). Yes on the whole top end, and I am not sure yet about what all will be required or what type. Kibblewhites are what I always seem to hear good things about. My buddy at OCH said he wants to do a little research before giving me his reccomendation. Fortunately I have a lot of trust in him so at least I am not concerned about getting took maliciously, but I think the invoice is still gonna hurt...

Missed riding the weekend before last due to A1, last weekend due to this issue and still won't have it back by next weekend, then A3 ..... hope I don't get the DT's

I wonder how an 07 R head would do on an X ? After all, it's got the two X sized smaller exhaust valves, and wouldn't be near as radical as those ProCircuit heads you ran.
Either with a stock X cam or an R one it might be a great combination. If I had an X still and it was time I'd consider it . What do you think Chris ?
This 07R has such a fun low to mid,you can dial on the power a fraction at a time with no big "bang". Doug

I have about 2200 miles on the bike (2005 450X) now. Bought in Sept 2005. I ride between 1,500-9,000ft., 35-100 degree weather, easy and hard riding, hill climbing, hard and soft terrain, low dust to very dusty conditions, etc. I also clean the air filter (K&N) after every 2nd or 3rd ride, depending on conditions
