So you guys think you know a lot about this valve issue but you don't. You are the crf 450X owners that ride about once a month. Well I have been to baja many times. So let dirt/Ride magazine tell you what ya want to think. they probably didn't include that they prob wouldn't ride the same bike again in mexico after a major motor rebuild. So don't write about the valves like your a pro.

You are not going to get a lot of help on here with your poor attitude! Take your crap over to TT and you might get an idiot to agree with you on your valve issues. It will probably be a Yammi rider in the wrong forum though. Good luck.

He hates the Honda so much he is thinking of buying an 07??? WTF???

He does a lot of maintenance for his riding, yet still has issues? I have over 2,000 miles on mine and so far, no problems. I don't worry about hitting the high RPM's and ride hard at times. He states that we may only ride once a month and that is true for most of us. Yet, with ANY bike, if you ride more, you WILL need more maintenance to match it. This bike, as with ALL of my Honda's I have owned have been very reliable. If he changes his air filter as much as he claims, it is possible he is not seating it back correctly and it is allowing dirt particles to get through. That alone would reek havoc on the valves in a short time. I change my oils / filter after every 500 miles and clean the air filter only when it really needs it. Oil today is a lot more durable then in years past and is designed to last longer.

    Same here !
Somebody still really likes these CRF's with all their "issues".
The shootouts are all coming out, TWMX has the 250R first, MXA and Dirt Bike the 450R first again. Wow. Not only do people buy these things, they go and buy them again.
And/Or, they buy another one for their wives, girl friends, kids.
Oh, the humanity. I mean, the valves ! Doug

Hey pal, your the one who asked the question in the first place. If your so friggin good why ask us "once a month riders" for our opinions, your obviously a much better rider/mechanic than any of us hicks. If you don`t like the answers here, try TT, where they will agree with you that the CRF450X is a time bomb. Those WR riders seem to know a lot about our bikes.

this is the guy who rides once a month and spends more time on here than on his bike. Never said I was better than anyone else. Just stated the obvious that some think they know everything about the valves or the bike by reading this website. So why don't you go on TT and spend some time over there! KOOK!

Just stated the obvious that some think they know everything about the valves or the bike by reading this website.

Dyslexia must be a drag. You really aren't too good at making a point, are you ? So, you throw around blanket insults that you can't back up.
What we do know is these are high performance thumpers and all brands are going to need valve work at some time or another. How's that ?
We also know that CRF's don't need it any more than any other competing brand.
We know it's cheaper to work on than it's competitors, cheaper to buy initially, yet has the highest resale. Hmmm.
We know that especially with the X's most of us have never had a problem at all,but we all know that we will eventually and we accept it. We accept it because we like high performance thumpers, and we'd be doing it eventually regardless of brand Among us "know it all" regulars, looks like Roady's first. He has been payed to ride and been sponsored by some pretty big outfits. What does that tell you about him ? Though it sucks to pay for anything maintenance wise , he's not moaning.
We know these are very dependable bikes ,and they've proved it to us, to the magazines, and in competition.
We know this is just like if you go to the airport, and one guy has a Cessna 172 and the other guy has a P-51 Mustang. You can bet the Mustang is more expensive to run than the Cessna, besides fuel, it takes more maintenance. We want the Mustang ,and we have one !
We aren't stupid enough to expect this level of performance without a maintenance bill.
We know of a lot of cases where people started shimming valves because they didn't measure right, set TDC right, etc. Is that what you did and is that why you're p.o.'d ? Because your bike didn't need it at 10 hours.
Because we know that when these bikes need enough of an adjustment to matter they don't want to start. Did you ? Doug

Good post Doug and this guy is making me regret suggesting we back off earlier in this thread. The fact that he states he has an '05 and is buying an '07 tells me he doesn't really believe the crap he keeps stirring. He says himself that he rides a lot more than some of us once a month types and has had to shim his '05 twice in 2 years ... hardly qualifies for "shimming all the time".

Although I wish I had "professional" on my resume, I don't. I think you may be confusing me with Nowazzu who has mentioned having a couple of pretty good sponsors once upon a time.

I think another good post on this thread has been this one from JD (although in my case I KNOW my air filter was seated and greased everytime)

Not quite. For a small fee, you too can have sponsors. http://www/sponsorhouse.com is the place for the hookup... No skills required.

wow what a bunch of garbage out of your pie hole.......you wrote 05 twice in 2 years ... hardly qualifies for "shimming all the time". try twice a year!

Try also the part you mention Did you check to see if TDC?....well try a professional honda mechanic has done the valve job on my 05 X.
Man you guys just cannot let this subject go can you, I really hope some of you again don''t lose sleep or result to drugs because of this blog really upsets you and cannot get it off your mind.
