And remember it cost the same to freight a bad chain as it does a good chain. Sprockets cost even more than a chain so +1 what Jim says regarding chains.

Hi, I read something interesting on fb last night and wondered what you know about it.

I joined a facebook group on Crf 450x and a guy is talking about oil coolers. He said he is getting this supplier guy
to make some more for around $330 each. Just wondered how many people are doing it and how well they work
and help. Is it really helpful and worth the money?
Here's the post. Caught my eye if it really does what they say.

Official IRP Oil Cooler Group Buy

"Ok so Garrett Vandersys posted earlier asking if anyone runs an oil cooler, long story short... Ian no longer has any in stock and in order to manufacture more he needs at least 10 people committed to purchase these at retail price. If we meet the minimum he will be making 40-50 units, so if we are able to get 15-20 people he said it's possible to get a better price. These are priced at $330usd retail, I know it's a bit of coin to drop on one part. However they are claiming that this will drop oil temperature by 40*, add 100cc more to your oil capacity, and supposedly double the life between oil changes. I am not sure about shipping details and if he is unable to ship internationally I can try and help out there. I think it might be tough to meet the minimum because of the price point but this could really help you get more life out of your bike, so just think if that's worth the expense."

Doing some research on these oil resevoirs and found this one.

    https://jagg.com/products/8200

I answered the fb guy back and showed it to him and he said the jagg has a remote resevoir and it mounts behind
the radiator and most of the guys on that fb group run fans so they dont want the remote tank. I'm wondering then
how their IRP oil cooler works. Does it not have a remote tank or what?

Anyway, very interested to hear your thoughts on this. Sounds like a good thing to add. Increases the oil
capacity and keeps the oil cooler. 2 good things.

Unless they are riding in some extreme conditions , i do not see any need for a Oil Cooler under "normal" conditions , the fan on the radiator ,yes , i have one , its a must if you ride slow single track , or for street use , but a good quality synthetic oil will help more than a oil cooler as far as i am concerned , if the oil is getting hot enough for a oil cooler to be needed , then your engine is overheating anyway , and i would be more worried about blowing a head gasket before i would be about cooking the oil itself , the temperature for oil to turn to a varnish is much higher than the temp would be to blow a head gasket , so the chances of the oil breaking down from heat are pretty much non existent , if your worried about cooling the engine , run a Radiator Fan like this one https://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/produc ... ts_id/5360 and Engine Ice coolant , or Evans Waterless Coolant , all that combined is 1/3rd of what that oil cooler cost and the fan will be more effective

The place you want more oil is in the transmission side , the engine side does not really need it , most of us run 1 full quart in the transmission of our R's and X's , but the recommended amount in the engine side

As usual all good info. I guess the other benefit they were saying is besides the cooling, it gave you more oil
capacity and claimed you didnt have to change your oil as often. Sounded good but not sure its all true.

What is the recommended amount in the tranny? Did a quick search but couldnt find answer easily.

I'm guessing you are running more than the recommended. with the full quart.
Since they go by liters/mililiters here can I just round off to 1000ml or really stick to the exact measurement
    of a quart at .946ml?

Bike should be ready this week. I'm very excited to see the difference.

    Thanks as always.

The manual calls for 0.65 liters , or 0.69 U.S. quart or 0.57 Imperial quart , so yes 946ml is what i would run , going more than that i do not think would seriously hurt anything , but you would already be going over recommended specs by about 300ml , i have never heard of anyone using that much , what the consensus is , is that the way the transmission is designed , the space around the gears is minimal , (think putting gears inside a toilet paper roll tube) so when the bike is in 4th or 5th gear the gears are spinning fast and evacuate the oil from the small space and cause overheating and bearing failure and gear shearing , so to remedy the issue , you put in 1 qt and it keeps the oil level high enough to keep the gears saturated at all times , preventing a lack of lubrication issue , this was part of the reason that Honda went back to 1 oil for engine and transmission in the 17-18 450's , now the oil is all together for the engine and clutch and transmission , where before they have been separate since the CRF came to be

Glad you have almost got things done , keep us posted on how things go with it ...

how much but couldnt get a clear answer. do you know where else they are available? I'm looking for aftermarket
at this point to save money.
I'm trying to past or attach the picture but it doesnt want to take it.

Looks like I figured out how to resize it. See attachment of the broken kickstarter.

Let me know what you think of this one on ebay.

I hope the picture i sent shows better than what I am seeing. I only see part of the arm.

A buddy and I tried to bump start it but to no avail. Is it not possible with the compression?

Yea , thats all i see is the arm as well , you can "bump" start it , just try it in 2nd or 3rd , it is too hard to get it to start in 1st , try to get as much speed as you can , like on a slight hill or something , anything over jogging pace would be good enough to start it , as long as there is no serious issues like valves or clogged jets it should start right up
