I've had my DDM kit last a solid hour before dying prior to my stator rewind while using a Shorai battery. Then.. darkness! My buddy guided us home slowly with the OEM light which seemed like a cheap flashlight after riding with the HID lol.

I wouldn't replace your stock light unless you get the stator rewind though... Just because its small in size compared to the 8" lights, its still 35W along with the big 8" lights. You could ride until it dies, then turn it off and run your bike around to charge the battery back up to keep going   .

OK , yea , thats what i was figuring , i have the PIA blue bulb , and its brighter than the white stocker , but its not all that bright when your in complete darkness , but it is enough light to get back with safely , and i dont do enough night riding to make it worthwhile to get the stator done , just those few times when the ride lasts longer than expected

    Thanks for the info !!

Won’t work for me. I need a Hi/Low bulb to pass Tx. inspection law. H6M is not available in Hi/Low.
I need more watts so I’ll pick a stator soon. Leaning toward TTs 90wat kit and a bulb to match. Wish I could use HID but I don't want to drop more $s on a new fairing.

If a single photon can escape the pull of the sun then they will not have problems escaping a Baja dualsport kit.

I didn't know you were looking for a hi/low option. My H6M isn't a hi/low. And I think that most street bikes have two separate bulbs/housings for the hi/low lights?

    Good point 8)

I have a VTX 1800 street bike (cruiser) and it uses a single bulb hi/low (H4). I converted it to HID and it's really bright. The low/high in my HID setup doesn't actually change filaments as it does with the halogen setup, but the light source in the tube actually moves to change the focal point. I have no idea if this would be robust enough for off-road, but it's been on road for me for a couple of years now and has been reliable to this point. Much brighter than halogen, and much whiter light.

What brand HID bulb is it? Sounds like what Gal8x needs! 8)

Good question. I bought it off of a guy on the VTXOA board. He gets the components and 'kits' them. It really works well. On the VTXOA board his nym is NDAna. He sells all over the US and uses paypal. I can't remember for sure but at the time I payed $60 ot $70 for the kit. Well worth it and the guy offers exceptional service. He's out of Seattle as I recall but will ship anywhere in the US. He made a special case out of me by shipping to Canada.

So you get a ballast, a bulb and the cables and connectors to put it all together. It is a drop in replacement for a dual element bulb in that the socket for the factory halogen bulb plugs into the ballast, and the HID bulb has a separate plug.

It was, in my case, easy to install and it works really well. It may be a bit of a challenge on an X to find somewhere to mount the ballast, but some creative thinking should get it there. I'd think some customizing of the harnesses would also be required and a standard 2 element socket would have to be sourced, or hard wired in somehow.

Go to the VTXOA board and ping NDAna, I'm sure he'd appreciate the business.
