Hey I've put the exhaust on my 450x and it slips right on. The only prob i have is that the bike back fires when I let off the throttle. I've tried changing the idle speed but that didn't do much but i was asking if anyone knew what to do. I've had some people tell me the jetting but not sure of the size or what but if anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. THANKS!!! :?: :? :?:

Good stuff on that forum. Make sure you open your airbox, shown in the How-To section here, and you ca either copy someone elses jetting set-up lke Robs or Pauls, or do a JD kit like I did.Don't open the airbox though until you get that thing some more fuel, it'll just make it that much more too lean.
Your problem is simple, you're too lean, the fix is cheap.
You wont believe it's the same bike ! Doug

So I hate to dig up this thread.(was searching for exhaust fits)... I scored a Pro Circuit loy-boy for an r and the header has fitment issues around the cooling lines. Anyone made the mods for Pro C r to X? Am I SOL?

I just received an email from an Akrapovic rep who says their 'R' exhaust WILL NOT fix the 'X' model.

Also, someone else on here just the other day said they purchased a whole system for the "R" to put on their X and it would not fit. I believe it was a Pro-Circuit system.

my boss got the akrapovic system for his 450x and it will fit but you need to modify the lower radiator hose and water pump. if you leave it stock the hose rest on the header. we had to get an aftermarket waterpump cover for an r with a single outlet then get the lower hoses and a y to split it. the water pump cover was a direct bolt on and the y was plastic im sure you could use any generic y and hoses. i think that the exhaust package said 450x but i find that hard to believe since modification was needed. if you want pics let me know i could post tomorrow.

In order for the R muffler to fit on an X ('05-'06 anyway), the R muffler must be a '05 model.

FFX is right, the only 450R system that will fit an 450X is the 05 version. It is a direct bolt up and will take all of about 10 minutes to change. 06 450R headers are different, 04 and older are totally different beast all together. Top end wise, above 4500 rpm, the power is right in there with the 450R.

Is '05 the only year the exhaust can (only) will switch to an X or will other years fit too?

Seems I need a header flange assembly first. This will lengthen the headpipe afew...now if Pro Circuit would call back...yeah, it seems to be the radiator hose. Thinking about cutting off the 90 at the rad. and trying that first. Thanks, no riding for awhile though...snow everywhere!

I've posted this before, but I'm running the Pro Circuit Ti-4 system for an 06 R on my 06 X. The clearance issue with PC's header and my cooling line was quickly remedied with a torch and some gentle bending of the hose nipple and voodoo magic. Pressure tested afterwards to make sure the nipple wasn't damaged. I've got around a half inch clearance now between the header and the hose and she runs like the proverbial "raped ape". I didn't have to worry about buying a new water pump cover. Although this Ti system isn't cheap, I've been completey happy. It was a vast improvement over the R oem header and WB E2 I'd run before.

Well i went to the local Honda dealer , *where i know everyone* and they had a 450R muffler/tailpipe , they sold it to me for $50.00 , i drove back to the bike shop i work at *and i live in the house in the front, a plus!!* and put the muffler on to test fit, the one i got i think is from a 04 and the lower middle mount*in the V of the frame* was about 1/2 of the hole off , so i threw it in the drill press , reamed out the area just to the edge of the nut hole and welded in a nut , mounted it and it fit perfect* the 05 and 06 just bolt on without this issue , so they told me* , anyway it sounds amazing!! but i do have the decelleration backfire i have to remedy, , so monday im calling Pro Moto Billit*we are a dealer for them AND!! they are only 30 miles from here!!* and i'm getting the Red Anodized spark arrestor *at our cost* , im also picking up the Brake Saver, dipstick, fill cap, from them when i go over there !!
As soon as i get a new camera this weekend* mine was toasted on one of my trail rides (tip: Don't go riding with a hunting knife with a gut hook in the same bag as 3 cans of Mountian Dew Code Red and your digital camera !!!..wont do that again!!) i will take some pics of all the stuff i have done to the bike*cut down seat , anodized various things, wrinkle painted left sidecase , R exaust ,PMB rack, siped tire , Speedo ,polished frame, and the stuff i ordered from here *CRFs Only* tonight !! :) spent about $170 in the online store tonight !! Woo Hoo !!!

So as soon as i get everything and put it on , i will post some pics of my spending spree!!

to get rid of the decell pop, wind your fuel screw out 1/8 at a time untill it`s gone. And if you haven`t already it will need a bigger main jet. You have opened the exhaust so you have to open the airbox, and give it more fuel via the main jet to even it all out. Buy the JD kit, then you will really know what this bike is capable of.

The guys at the Honda dealer were all saying that at the elevation we are at(2400ft) that the bike "should" be jetted right already ,if anything a little rich right now , but i havn't looked at the main to see what size it is but i will check it today after work , those 6 inch flames out the pipe would lead me to believe unburnt gas , meaning too rich , but i will mess with the Air screw and see if it helps , if not i might have to do some jetting , but so far it seems to do it with or without the choke on . :? , and a airbox mod was on my list of things to do! , but with the colder temps *30degF for the highs* its kinda hard to evaluate how far to go up or down , i will pull the plug and see what that tells me first !

Well i did some more research and found that the jetting of the R is way higher than the X stock , the pilot is the same but the main is larger , i talked to one of the guys at the Honda shop that has modded one and he said i need to go to about a 165 main jet to start and that should solve my backfireing since it is breathing so much better with the R muffler so i will rip it apart tonight , as i think we are going riding tomorrow so that will be a good chance to test it out!! , i will wait till my order comes in to do any airbox mods if needed!! , the temp here is about 34 high so i wont try anything too drastic till it warms up some more , around April :x
