Just ordered the KTM guard today, gonna go this route, anything I should know. Did you take the swingarm off the bike? I have read both ways, some say leave it on for alignment purposes, just take the gas tank off and flip the bike over and go for it.

    Stronger Guide

    by Lars450X » Wed Dec 24, 2008 8:28 pm

Sounds like we need to fabricate a Shark-Fin chain guide doodad, but would it sell?
Do like that seriously strong looking BulletProof braket, Winner.. in my book,, where did i get that dumb shark-fin idea, what was I thinking....BulletProof is the way to go, but would J/B Weld work with Aluminum? I hear it fixes most anything. What do ya'll think?

Make your own by copying the BPD but use 1/4" wall aluminum plate, and keep it short like BPD.

Make your own? Out of Papier-mâché? Maybe I could sculpt one out of Jb Stick?

it's bullet proof not idiot proof! :D jk it isn't the end all be all if you beat anything hard enouh it will break. i ought to find some wood to knock on seeing as I haven't broken mine off with the stock guide on it, and my bike gets tortured.

that is exactly the point i was trying to make, the TM guide helps, but like you said, hit it hard enough and it will break the tabs.

I went with the KTM BPD w/ the TMDguide.
I took the swingarm off to make it easier for the welder. Otherwise the bike needs to be flipped over to weld. I tried that the 1st time I snapped it off and re welded the original set up w/ an aftermaket guide. It lasted for 1 year.
I post some pictures when finished.
I agree nothing is 100% but it will be 100% better than the crap stock set up.

    Thx!

Is there a special wire to use for the Mig when welding on the swingarm? I have a small 220V miller with a spool gun and Argon. I just dont know if the wire I have is compatable so if anyone here knows the answer it would be appreciated.
