First thing is that the temp sensor for the air cooled bikes in on the spark plug.
Second it that the 250 fan kit has the temp sensor located in that small hole on the bottom of the right rad.

I know this is an old thread but I was also wondering what normal temps for an 03 Crf450r mine stays around 170f in the summer temps in the 80-100 degree range right now. I have oversized radiators a boyesen supercooler engine ice and a fan mines a supermoto but at red lights and slow stuff it only goes up a little bit highest I’ve seen So far is 185f.

That appears to be a very well circulating cooled engine. Those temps look great.

Anything under boiling point is very good.
I wouldn't want it be much cooler running than that as you will lose a bit of engine efficiency.

I agree , you really don't need to worry about anything under about 210 , because you are under the Boiling point of water , and Coolant has even a higher boiling point , so the risk of losing coolant out the overflow and doing damage is not a worry at those temps you have....... , unless you sit there and idle for 5 minutes , or do single track at 1 mph , you should be fine ...

Awesome thanks guys. I was out riding today temps high to mid 80s and most of the time I was at 165-168 and I wouldn’t be worried about losing coolant anyway I have a 1.8 rad cap and a return system my coolant overflow if/when it overflows goes into a container and is returned to the radiators if/when it’s needed. I fill the radiators with engine ice and I fill the 250cc container half way with coolant idk if that’s a dumb thing or not but the container does have its own drain if it fills up but it’s never done so. I was just curious reading this thread seeing people riding at 220-240 and I’m 40-80f under that most of the time.

I put a 250X Overflow Tank on my 02 450R ... it works well , I just had to notch the number plate a bit for the cap , I made the mounts out of a computer expansion slot cover bracket for the expansion slots on the PC case (where the sound/video cards go)and a plastic U shaped clamp for those white wire build it yourself shelves from Home Depot (I think it is made from PVC) , and all is good , I track and trail ride my R in temps up to 110 f. and have never overheated with this setup and a 1.8 cap .... ;)
