Well the sides were a bit black and sooty the electrode it's self was a tad white for my tastes...=) So I've been kinda thinking i might need to go back to the 45...

Well I think I'll get the beast started first do and break that cam in then I'll start jetting again=)./ have you swapped out your leakdown jet is it neccessary

I never did change the leak jet on the X, and was very happy with how it ran.
If that electrode is a little white, I'd go up on the main for sure, to a 162 or 165 and see how that works out.
White is a bad thing for plug colors for sure. Doug

    Choose any two.

Ok so I readjusted the Decompressor arm to .022 last night checked the compression spot on at 58. Fired her up on the first push of the button.. took her for a 5minute ride around the neighborhood..

1st impressions of the Hot Cams Stage 2----

HOLY SH*T its fast. I didn't get it out of 4th gear though I didn't want to rev it too much since i'm still breaking the cam in... But man torquey like a MOFO and just tons of power!!!!!!!! I barely got on it and rode a wheelie the entire length of my street(1/8thmile or so). Man I can't wait to ride it somemore.. It was dark though and since I've removed the headlight I really didn't want to try to venture out to far=).
I'm going to have to go out Sunday and spend the whole day just getting used to it now..

I also threw in a new spark plug I had as well as downsized the pilot from a .48 to .45 also jetted up a bit from a 160 to a 162..

Oh man the low end is substantially better. I rode my buddies 05 450r with the stage2 and mine feels alot faster... We'll see this weekend though.

Thanks again Doug and everyone else for all your help..

Well, this was a painfully long read but very informative. I too have been on the fence about the Hot Cams I or II. I was was going with a new exhaust and header and was trying to decide on which one was the best bang for the buck but still quite like stock and it was suggested on here that I keep the existing set up and go with Hot Cams...........and thats what I going with.
We do a lot of 2nd and 3rd gear woods riding mixed with 4th and 5th gear secondary roads and Vet Sr. MX - the stage II should give me the extra kick I'm looking for.

The stage 2 is a great cam I have a stock headpipe and a t-4 slip on.. I love the stage 2 I broke it in this weekend unfortunately it was extremally muddy and I still had the old tire on I could pull a wheelie in an gear extremally easy I pulled one in 4th at 54mph, that was a lil scary. Now I need to get used to it all over again.. I still don't have tuned perfect pretty close though..=) thanks again

Just remember on the Stage2 set the decompressor at .022 and you'll be good to go

Thanks for all the great info.

I just installed the stage two cam and it made an impressive difference! I measured clearances before and after and did not have to change anything. (decompressor was already .022 with the stock cam) The bike runs great with no changes in my jetting and it starts fine.

    I ride mostly sea level to 1000 feet elevation and set up is as follows;

    complete air box mod
twin air filter and cage (no toil)
    JD kit (170 main)
    Yosh comp full exhaust
    hot cam stage 2

    Can't stop smiling : :D
