    CRF70 2006 fouling plugs rapidly

    by majr808 » Sun Sep 05, 2021 9:42 pm

    Hi guys,

I recently recovered a 2006 CRF70 that hasn't ran in about 10 years. The bike is stock. I changed the oil, air filter, and spark plug. I had the local honda motorsports dealer do a carb clean on it in an ultra sonic. They also rejetted it to stock, rebuilt the orings/float and set the adjustments to stock.

I'm noticing that the bike is still fouling brand new plugs after only a few minutes of riding. The plug is covered in dry black soot every time I pop one in. Sometimes very minimal puffs of black smoke out the exhaust. With a new plug the bike will run fine for about 5 minutes, and they start to bog down and struggle to run.

Compression test tops out at 150 PSI with WOT and takes about 10-13 kicks to get there.

Dry soot fouled plugs tells me carb issues.. but the carb should be fine after the dealer dialed it in to stock. Where else should I be looking?

    Thanks all for any help

Hi majr808 and welcome to the site.

You really need to know what "stock jetting " has been installed.
Did they use genuine parts or and aftermarket kit?

Is your aircleaner clean and not over oiled as this would make it run rich.
You could try temporarily removing it is you don't live somewhere dusty.

    How does it idle?
Does the fuel screw need adjusting?

    Forgot to add that one.
You would be surprised how many have used it the wrong way around.
Even had one gent completely misunderstood how a choke worked and adamant when the plate was closed that was normal running.

Hope the rider enjoys the bike, they are fun.
