08 crf 230f starts but wont stay goin

    by lilnewf345 » Fri Jun 18, 2021 7:48 pm

so I bought this 08 crf 230f off my buddy got a good deal on her cuz she needed a bit of work. small stuff. no brakes at all petal brake was even missing. home made clutch cable on her no air box
( panty hose covering air intake ) or filter no battery no. starter relay no kill switch to start it. u had to bump her or hook boosters up one to frame one to starter but she started right up i fixed her up a bit then after about 200 km I decided to put gas filter on my gas line so I take off old line put new one on and start bike up she sits idling choke on for 2 mins then I shut choke off and she sits for another 5 mins tops while woman starts her quad and gets ready and we head out I get 300 ft down rd and when I gear down for turn she loses all power and stalls I gave her a little run and bumped her and she started back up but then stalled thats been goin on for 2 days I put old gas line back on.. if she starts I got to feather her and its ether lots of power or none and I can't get more then 100 ft b4 she shuts off I checked main jet and low jet both r clean there was a air leak up past carb on rubber housing where it meets engine from heavy air filter putting to much weight on carb and weighing it down but I fixed that I can't figure out what it could b she got a new spark plug lots of spark and she runs better now with choke on full I noticed today
any help would b a big help
ps I didnt take out the pilot screw
I'm ok with bikes and have took carb apart but it seams like shes getting to much air or flooding her self

Pull the pilot jet and clean. I suspect when you cut the fuel line you had a small piece of the rubber line get into the fuel system and partially clog the pilot jet.

ok thank u for the tip
    little update b4 b4 I ask a question
so I took apart the carb pulled main jet and lower jet both clean real clean
the pilot screw has a D head so couldn't pull it as dont have tools I put her back together and she started up but was sputtering and surging acting like she's going to stall out and then picking up and going and at least you can install it again but she drove for 1000 yds I pulled plug and it was full of soot ( or how ever u spell it lol) so from what I read shes a little rich. as far as I know jets r all stock
I found a crack in rubber after carb fixed that with jb till my new one gets here and feeling like she was getting to much air to now she's getting to much gas
I'm so confused and pissed at myself for touching the gas line. now question is there a chance that when I changes gas line that air got into carb some where and said air bubble could b causing trouble if so how to fix

It sounds as if you have several things that can be issues that need to be resolved. One thing at a time. As for cleaning the pilot jet, The orifice that has the obstruction and is at the end of the pilot jet, not the side defusion holes To answer your question on the "air bubble" -- No.
Start with a new spark plug, check for air leaks, clean the pilot jet.
