Hey all - been soaking up knowledge on this site a while, but finally putting up my first post.
So I feel like an idiot. I'm good with car/truck/old jeep/harley maintenance and even more comprehensive mechanic work. However, dirt bikes and these high spooling race engines are totally new to me.
Yesterday I swung by the Honda dealer to get oil, oil filter, and trans fluid. I asked what they recommended (expecting to pay for the genuine Honda premium stuff). They recommended: Honda GN4 for the engine, Honda HP Trans (red bottle) for the transmission. I told the guy that I thought I saw somewhere that the bike uses GN4 for both engine and trans, but seemed weird to me and that's why I came in to ask.
I did the fluid exchange, the existing transmission fluid looked more like oil than red tranny fluid, but I did the service.
This morning I was thumbing through the owners manual and in the back I saw recommended fluids:
- Engine oil: Pro Honda GN4
- Transmission oil: Pro Honda GN4
MY QUESTION - can I run the HP trans oil that the shop recommended, or do I need to flush that out and run the GN4?
Thanks for the advice.
