    Fan on EFI CRF450

    by Johnbeton » Mon Oct 26, 2020 8:47 am

I see there are wirelooms and power delay switches available that allow connecting led headlights on a EFI CRF.
Has anyone ever tried connecting a fan this way ?

As far as I can find, the stator delivers 60 to 70w of power. I'd like to connect a fan without the use of a battery

What year are you talking about ?? , the wiring is different for a 09 compared to a 2020 , as is the layout of the radiators , for example , on my 06 450X ( yea I know not a R , but) the fan mounts to the right radiator , on the newer gen , it only has room on the lower left radiator , all this makes a difference as far as fan size , amp draw , etc. , which makes a difference where you can hook it up

As far as using the fan without a battery , I do not see that happening , the draw would be too much for just the charging system to carry ... that is why it is only used on battery powered bikes , unless you get the headlight kits with the R/C type battery , but it won't last as long , and I do not know what would happen hooking it up to a fan , as opposed to a headlight , as far as how the power is delivered

But there are kits available for whatever gen bike you have ....

    Thanks, I have a 2016 crf450r engine, build in a quad frame (trx450r).
I guess battery will be my best option, I see trailtech fan kit has a watt draw of 30 tot 34w.
The stator will probably not deliver enough power.

You can do a stator rewind and amp in up. Usually around $100-$150.

I contacted HPI, they sell a Power Delay Switch, they you can use up till 60W once the engine is started.
I might give it a try.
