Throttle sticks at 75% of full throttle

    by DanSumo » Fri May 01, 2020 10:08 pm

    Hey fellow riders,

It would seem that my throttle catches on something when the motor is off and I twist it to 75% percent of full throttle. The throttle tube and cables are clean and lubed without a doubt. It just feels like something mechanical is catching it once twisted far enough. I’ve completely Disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the carb and the bike runs great. Whatever is slightly catching the throttle doesn’t catch it when the bike is running.

Anyone have this problem before? If so please do let me know.

    Thanks for your time,

Is it more so with the front wheel straight ahead or with the steering more left or right.
I am thinking cable routing, did it stick before you cleaned carby.
The slide is getting near the top at 75% so change of angle of the pull comes into play.

You will often notice it when bike isn't running as the is no vibration to help bump things along.

The mechanical catching does persist no matter the orientation of the handle bars. It didn’t used to do this, it just cropped up after a big rebuild one day.

Does it do it if you completely disconnect the throttle cables ??? , if not , I would guess you have the cables routed in a way that when the gas tank is on , they are being compressed by the gas tank .... you will need to re-route the cables so they lay on the side of the valve cover as opposed to over top of it .... if it still does it with the cables disconnected completely , then I would say it is the floating plate on the slide hanging up , or something worn or improperly installed with the slide itself

To add to the others good comments.
Be certain it is not the throttle tube hanging on the handle bar.
Frayed cable at one of the ends?

Don’t know if it’s the same issue. When my son bought his 04 100f last fall the throttle was sticking too. PO said he just put a new cable on and it started doing that. We figured it was just a bad cable and planes on replacing it. We went to take it off and when we backed the top screw of 1/8th of a turn the throttle instantly snapped back. So we pulled the cover off and saw their was an aged and deteriorating seal there. So we cut a new one out of some gasket membrane and reinstalled it and the binding was gone.
