    2019 CRF250R clutch slipping

    by ejk » Tue Jul 30, 2019 4:52 pm

Hello, our 2019 CRF250R clutch is slipping. Our dealer does not have parts for our bike but has the friction plates for a 2017 bike. Does someone know if the 2017 friction plates will fit and work in the 2019 bike? Will the clutch work better if the first thinner friction plate is replaced with a standard size friction plate? If so will the judder springs need to be taken out? Bike has about 30 hours on it and we run synthetic Liqui Moly oil.

I am not expecting a long term fix out of this disc change just hoping that I can get the clutch working for some practice rides and a couple of races before I get the proper parts in.

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

The clutch was changed in 18 then again in 19 , As far as I know , the basket is different and the type of plates is different (still has the judder spring) , as they had issues with the clutch and revamped it in 18 , then the clutch basket started exploding , so they revamped it again , then redesigned the whole engine in 19 and again changed the basket to work with the engine changes ....... The Dealer should know for sure , but as far as I understand , they are not the same ..... That does not mean they wont interchange parts , but I am guessing the changes were different enough to 17/18 to make a basket change , then 19 to change it again ... Again , the dealer should be able to tell you if the parts will or will not fit , but I do not know the specifics of the changes , just that there were changes ....

What you can do , is if they have the regular plates , get 1 , then look at the back of the disk stack , you can remove the back plate , then the thin fiber disk and the judder spring and replace all of that with the 1 thicker single fiber disk that is found in the rest of the pack , and eliminate the judder setup altogether , that is what most people do (so just go to the dealer and get 1 single fiber disk that is used everywhere but the back of the stack)

The friction plates were worn but not beyond the service limit. Switched them all out anyway as the ‘17 model discs fit well. Clutch still slipping. Going to put in an extra steel plate to see if that solves the slipping.

Worked well with the extra steel plate in the clutch pack.

Yes, replaced all the frictions along with changing out the first thinner friction (along with judder setup). Still slipped. Added a extra steel separator disc (making the clutch pack thicker, compressing the springs more) and the clutch was 100 % through 4 motos this past Sunday.

Good to know ...... This may help me as well , as I am contemplating getting a 19 450 R (or RX depending on pricing , etc.) now instead of waiting another 1-1/2 years ... have to do some negotiating with the bank to see if its practical to do it right now or to wait ....

You joined the site to ask questions , and ended up contributing helpful info for others ..... That is what this place is about ..... ;)
