Re-torque head after rebuild

Hi there,
I've just rebuilt my 04 250R. Do I need to re-torque the head bolts after an initial period and if so how soon do they need doing?
Thanks

Technically no. If you are a perfectionist then yes. After the first or second heat cycle it is always good to re-torque any hot zone bolts after cool down [ambient condition].
The torque specifications given are not contingent on re-torque after use.

Your welcome -
But just another bit of my 2 cents. I always
re-torque after rebuilds. There is also what is called "cold creeper" re-torque. That is the procedure of when a bolt or bolts are torqued to specification. Then re-torque after sitting 5 minutes and the bolts have "crept" from the initial torque setting. Always a good procedure to follow on any construction of machinery. Criss cross torque pattern is also required on flat plane sections.
And you started all this over a simple little question
You should be good to go - Have fun.

Not sure that Neil is a good one to put anyone's "Mind at rest". In this case he is right, but you can't always depend on that! He once told me that we could make it up a hill and we both ended up under our bikes!

Remember that one Neil?

Technically Neil was/is correct both times. If he said you COULD make it up the hill, he gave no guarantee, implied or otherwise that you WOULD make it up the hill. Only that it was possible.
Sorry man ... couldn't resist

Well, we both did eventually make it up the hill (more than once) AND Neil did get the worst of it....so I guess justice was served! LOL

I only got the worst of it because I was trying to help you and then you ran over my bike if I remember correctly. Not sure but you might have run over me also in that process of getting you down the hill ???
Great to hear from you Bob. Miss ya man !

As I recall, you were going way to slow towards the top and thus I did run over you, I had no choice!
Have not been riding for a long time. My riding buddy up here has not been up for riding as his son was in a very bad motorcycle accident over in CA and probably will never walk again!

He was an excellent dirt bike rider and ran head on into a couple of quads - laid it down but slid into them and severed his spin.....damn lucky to be alive!
We had a good run........hope all is well with you - when do you get to retire?

Already retired !!!! Life is great and all is go for the second half of our lives.
I spent a week in the intensive care in Sept. Damn YZ kicked my rear....really sucked.
Over that & good to go.
Lot's of trials riding the last year and a half. Absolutely love it !
Too bad you are not still down here - All the time in world to ride.
