    cam cap rethreading

    by leirhiht » Tue Apr 29, 2014 7:44 am

    Hi,
Got a 06 CRF250R and my valve cover bolt will not stay in because the cam cap needs to be helicoiled. Which is what I am going to do. But before I do this I want to know if I can just unbolt the cam cap and take it out and tap the hole? Or do I have to go through the steps of getting the bike in TDC and back the tension off the chain? I hope I can just take the cam cap out without doing any of that...
    Thanks for reading!

I'd back off the tensioner, loosen all 4 cam holder bolts, remove the cam holder you need to fix, fix it, re-install, torque, then release tensioner.

That takes the pulling force off one end of the cam, and the holder your not removing..
