450X Help! Transmission Drain Bolt Stripped?

    by 450XForever » Sat Aug 03, 2013 8:17 pm

    I have a 2006 CRF 450X -
Anybody else ever have trouble with the transmission bolt?
Just serviced my bike installed Rekluse z-start pro,
Did the break in procedure the clutch works flawlessly took a short ride
And it was great! We back to my garage to drain the transmission fluid as they recommend, the bolt came out a little felling a little strange the fluid was still warm and I pulled the bolt out and dropped into the oil, didn't pay it much mind, continued to drain all the fluid and started putting the drain bolt back in I started it by hand it seemed to thread in fine when the bolt was about a 1/4 " left to thread in it started getting tight, so I backed it out and the first few threads were stripped on the bolt. I stopped right there and here I am, can I chase the threads with a tap and some wax to catch the shavings? And install a new bolt ? Any experience with this ? Or ideas?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks-

What is stripped, the bolt or the case threads?? If it's the bolt, just order a new one, if it's the case then try another bolt and make sure it's going in straight by hand before putting a socket on it. Also just pour some more tranny fluid in to help clear out any shavings...

Thanks for the quick reply, the bolt itself is stripped, the last 3-4 threads-
Not sure of the case, I will try a new bolt and hopefully that will work.
    Thanks for the advice :)

Up-date: installed new bolt, cleaned the threads and hand threaded the new bolt in all but about 1/4" and it started to strip the end of the new bolt of exact same length as the original bolt? I installed one that was 1/4" shorter than stock threaded right in by hand and tightened right up no problem? Anybody know what the original bolt may be hitting?

Was that your 450 in the back of a truck with a couple kids bikes at the Walmart parking lot off Gail Gardner ?
I was leaving Walmart yesterday afternoon & seen that somebody got out & had some fun.

    Thank you Joe!
I will need to get a pulley tap to clear all the threads the next time I change the oil! In about 10 hours of riding!
