I have a 04 CRF250R and the wheel bearings were shot so I thought it would be a piece of cake like on my KX250

Turns out there is a wheel bearing retainer, so I order the special tool and find out it's 47mm and my retainer is around 43-44mm. So I heat up the retainer and get a punch and hammer out. retainer is FUBAR'd now, but out.

Is this retainer absolutely necessary? I ordered another one just in case. Also, is 2004 the odd year for these retainers (44mm as opposed to 47mm) or do I possibly have a rear wheel from another bike?

welcome to CRF's Only. get his bearing kit and it will contain a new retainer (red anodized).

I just found out someone put a pre-2000 CR250 wheel on my crf250r.
