    Hi Guys,

Whats the best way to determine whether your cam chain needs replacing or not?

    Cheers

Most just replace it when they get their valves done. Cheap insurance.

Rule is, to change it out on every other piston change...

i agree...cheap insurance and the every two pistons guideline is sound advice. keep in mind the cam chain is the ONLY thing keeping everything moving in your top end from colliding with each other. when they collide they typically not only destroy themselves but also everything around themselves. very expensive fix when this happens. like all chains they wear and can break. so, the risk is not worth it for the relatively small cost of a new cam chain.

Thanks for the response guys. Sounds like I might be chsnging it this year after a couple of races. Are the hard to change? Do you have to remove the cylinder or the just the left hand case and feed it up?

Is there any way of checking whether its worn or not?

    Thanks.

you will need a flywheel puller once you remove the left case. allows you to get the chain off the bottom end.

Roughly how long are you looking at to replace one give or take?
