    Lacquer in carb

    by kevpilot » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:35 pm

My CRF 70 sat too long. I pulled the carb off, removed the bowl and the fuel smells like lacquer. There is a bunch of golden-brown colored deposits in the bowl and carb...so......what is the best "solvent" to soak the whole thing in to dissolve the deposits? I tried kerosene and it got off some but not much.

    Thanks

Yamaha Combustion and Chamber cleaner is what my mechanic uses and it works exceptionally well.

Any of the spray carb cleaners work well. Walmart, checker auto, Pepboys ect...
Wear safety glasses - it loves to blast back into your eyes when you want just a little squirt. Carb cleaner & a tooth brush / acid brush should clean those parts up. The jets are going to need to be cleaned out also. Special attention to the pilot jet ! Really small orifices.
Good luck & hope that helps.

just remember that carb cleaners often damage rubber o-rings and seals. so use it while the carb is apart and with the rubber o-rings and seals removed.

Better still we drain our float bowls after washing our bikes.

Can't say I do it everytime either and some plugs can't be undone with the carb on the bike.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas
