10w-40 is the most common oil weight ran, but check your manual and see what it recommondeds. You dont necessarily have to run synthetic motorcycle oil unless it specifically specifies to do so in your manual; however, Synthetic oils are definetly better than conventional oils because they perfom better in high temps and generally have a longer lifespan. I personally run the same oil in both my engine and tranny side mainly so its easier on maintanence, i can cut down weight in my gear bag and trail pack, and its cheaper in my opinion because i only need one oil instead of having to have a motorcycle oil and gear oil.
