CAM chain Came OFF during Shimming!! RETIMING NEEDED?

    by rider252 » Tue Oct 04, 2011 8:22 pm

NEED SOME HELP HERE: My crank case chaing came off my lower crank drive while i was re-shimming my valves(had it wire up with to much slack). I put the chain back on, put the lower crank case to top dead center alligning the three gears dots through the seeing hole. Then I put the cam shaft to top dead center and alligned the marks on the upper sprocket. Is there a chance with what I have done above that my timing will be off??? HELP TRYING TO RIDE SOUTHERN UTAH THIS WEEKEND! THANKS

you set the timing by aligning the timing marks at TDC as demonstrated in the how-to. then put on your cam chain, verify timing marks are aligned and you're set.

if you had your bike at top dead center and have your cam lined up and your engine did not move from top dead center it wont matter just put your chain back on and make sure your cam is lined up

take out the right hand side hex bolt should be am 8mm allen key and line up the marks making sure you are at top dead center that suould set your bottom end timing then install cam line up marks lobes to the rear install chain done
    over 40 still ridin hard
    still learning

So I have my chain back on my lower crank gear and on the cam sprocket. I was told by my local honda mechanic that i should remove the lower left caase, pull the fly wheel and check to make sure the lower plastic chain guide is not out of place/missing or impared. I have taken off my case. i was trying to find that guide without removing the flywheel. I think i can see it but it looks to be metal not plastic. I am unsure if this is even something I need to do? Is there a place online that you can order engine parts that I could show this peice in a picture?

If you go to this site http://www.hondapartsline.com/fiche_sec ... fveh=12175

It is part 1 in the picture that the mechanic is talking about.
