take Ken's advice for sure - check EVERYTHING. Washers, nuts, the torex that went missing... At a minimum, everything that you unbolted needs to be checked.

Pull the left cover and the flywheel. Do a visual on the flywheel key, crank sprocket, and screen filter. Something made the noise. If you are sure it was mechanical (clank is mechanical) and not a carb or exhaust sound, stay away from the urge to try it again until the issue is located.

Well i found the problem? When i put the cam shaft back on i didnt notice that the cam cap bolts were different lengths and i put them in the wrong spot.this allowed for the cam to slightly tilt and make the cam chain jump teeth on the bottem sprocketconnected to the crank.

wow...that's a new one. have you verified the valves did not make contact with the piston? glad you found the culprit. for others when installing the cam cap bolts put all four in at one time. they will be correct when all four will be very close to the same height unthreaded.

Yup the valves are gorgeous and so is the piston. But yeah it didnt say in the book that the cam clamp bolts were different lengths so be careful. Shorter ones on intake side longer on exhaust
