Welcome to the site Smitty. You've come to the right place.

Turn up the idle, learn to feather the clutch, and maybe change the countershaft sprocket down a tooth or up some on the rear. The ratio is about 1 tooth in front equals about 3 in the rear.

If you are going to be doing single track a lot, get an X. Your life will be WAY better. Ask IN2DEEP!

You can get some tips on dialing in your suspension as well.

Your biggest issue is that the 1st gear in the R is tall. Great for moto starts, but not so good in the tight.

thanks ill definately take that all in gettin and X tho i dont kno, my dad let me ride his '05 X and i loved it but i still really like the R, we took the front sprocket from a 15 to a 12 and that really helped alot

We took it from 13 to 12. I noticed 1st to still be kinda tall and 5th way too short when we exchanged bikes for a bit.
