Boot fit question

I bought a pair of comfortable racing boots today, per everyone's suggestion a few weeks back. They're from Fox, and they're pretty comfortable, but I'm not sure how tight to set the straps.

Is the goal to completely lock your ankle and lower leg as if they were one, only allowing up and down movement of your heel so you can shift?

They feel rather stiff - might be a little bit before they will get broken in I'm thinking.

Thanks for any tips,
matt

matt...congrats on getting more protection...especially for your feet/ankle/shins. if you've never ridden with boots be prepared...it will take some getting use to not having the same "feel" that you had with your other shoes/boots. plus it will take some time to break in your new boots. how tight? well, they should allow blood to flow ;) but definitly tight enough to hold your foot in the proper position...up the shin just tight enough to stay put...I don't "wrench" down any of the buckles...just a good firm snap.

good luck!

did you ever ask someone how tight to pull the laces of your sneakers, Matt?
your boots got to feel comfortable, so simple!
if they are too loose your foot will slip around inside the boot, NOT comfortable on your toenails!
if they are too tight your calves, feet will hurt or fall asleep, NOT comfortable!
you might need to pivot your boot around the peg to shift or brake, depending on how stiff your boots are
it will feel strange and somewhat out of control in the beginning but you'll get used to it, most boots need some breaking in (except Sidi Force Flex) and getting used to
I hate getting new boots, my HEBOs left deep, dark bruises just above the ankle when I first wore them, now they are as comfortable as sneakers and I even wear them when working trails or walking a track

Yes, figured it was a silly question. :?
I had them on around the house last night, to try and get them to flex a little easier (shift and brake motion), but looks like steady rain here *again*, for the next 3 days.

Man did I pick a wet time to get back into riding or what.
