Footpeg weight / standing turn question

    by Monkeywrench » Sun Oct 03, 2004 9:36 pm

I've been able to do a bit more trail riding than open-field riding lately, and I gotta say "S" turns rock. Learning to shift the bike around to peel through them (seated) is too cool. But I'm having trouble with turns while standing.

Am I supposed to be "weighting" a particular foot peg?
For example: if going around a left curve while standing, I feel like I'm pushing the bike to my left with my arms, while trying to keep my body perpendicular to the ground (lean the bike, not the body)... But I'm wondering if I'm also supposed to be weighting a particular footpeg?

Have tried favoring weight on each footpeg (first the left, then the right) but both feel equally awkward, so I'm having trouble making a common-sense judgement in this case.

    thanks guys for your advice.

I have this question too. I've heard to weight the outside peg to keep the tire gripping but then the bike wants to go in that direction....

first of all: you cannot turn very sharp while standing or you will fall right over. but, it kind of depends on what you are riding in. sand, mud, dirt, concrete.

my tip: no matter what you are riding in you have to put your weight on the outside of the bike while turning unless you have a good berm.

so while standing i would suggest putting your weight on the outside of the bike and leaning it to the way you want to turn. i will try standing and turning at the same time saturday.
