    Starts

    by Tom#91_crf250 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 3:00 pm

im realy struggerling with starts and the 250, i seemed to have them pretty dialed last season but this year they seem to have gone wrong, the only difference is im now atleast 15lbs lighter than before, and im sitting right on the tank but the bike still wants to wheelie, and thats on a dry sand start, im not dumping the clutch, i have it so it just bitting at the 5 second board, and when the gate drops i feed it out as even as i can get it from when i go from half revs to full.

i just dont know what im doing wrong.

Feet in front of the pegs? Elbows bent, chest over the tank? Kinda like being stuck half-way up a barbell bench-press.

Using a hole-shot device to compress the forks? (helps against wheelie starts from what I understand).

Any chance you're running a more agressive sprocket ratio this year compared to last year? That could do it, too. :-k

Never start in 1st gear, wheelies out of control. I always start in 2nd, but you'll need to rev it more. 150R, or 450R, I always start in 2nd.

Without watching you start, possibilites include:

-Weight too far back (keep feet in front of pegs)
    -Clutch control
    -Gear ratio (sprocket size)
-Bad clutch basket/hub. If basket in worn (notched), clutch will not enage smoothly.

    Holeshot device will help greatly.
