Those rigorous and sometimes painful "whoops"

Whoops are cool but sometimes you can get hurt. I have learned on a 4 stroke not to let go of the throttle through whoops. because of compression braking i have almost went over the bars a couple a times. So my main advice for the whoops sections is this: Keep weight on back tire, bend knees, stay at a steady rpm, and keep elbows out.

good advice...i would add that stand on the balls of your feet this will give you another "axis" point, the ankle, which can help you absorb the energy...absorbing as much energy off the whoops you can is important for going faster and maintaining both bike and body control...plus it will extend how far back you can get which as hondafan mentioned is important for keeping the front light so it won't drop in. timing over the whoops is also very important. so if you're at a track practice the same section of whoops over and over again (without going around the whole track) and find a good rythum, if there are deep whoops you might even find opportunities to double some of them.

lastly...as with anything that involves the union of intelligence and muscle memory there's no substitute for practice...and lots of it. frequency is more important than duration of the practice session.
