never been so lost that i had to spend the night out in the bush. have had some pretty serious injuries on the trail making it hard to ride out. once broke my tailbone in three places...about 20 miles from staging area in some really nasty terrain. once i recovered from shock a bit i rode out but it wasn't pretty.

i had that problem where i got lost. me and some of my not to smart friends decided we were gonna ride the 20 miles of walking trails around a lake during the winter cause there was no people. we left around three and got lost in the trails all of our bikes were over heating so at about mid-night we found a road that we recognized (this was the fun part) the road was highway 150 so we hopped on it and rode wide open for close to 5 miles and we were home

so heres what i learned no head light + no idea of where the trails go=no riding for me

    I'll tell ya a story 8)

when is was about 10 and my brother was about 13 we went on our 81' Honda CT70 for a little tour about 10 min form our house we ran out of gas becuase we didn't check it befor we left i remember it was a super hot day and i thought i was going to die, if any of you have a Ct70 you know how much they way it took us about 35 minutes to get back to our house becuase the bike was so heavey and we were so small it sucked.

I am now 15 and still have the CT (but it does not work)

Hope you injoyed my bed time story.
    Good Night.

Me and a buddy got lost/ran out of gas in Baja and spent the night in the desert. We had to hike out the next day and got really dehydrated and ended up opening up a cactus and getting fluid out of it. It worked great. We finally got out and the next day hired some Mexican cowboy to ride us back on horse back with gas. I can laugh about it now but it really sucked at the time.

Yesterday evening I went on a ride at Rower flats with my son(12). After riding for an hour and a half we are at the top of the mountain and clouds/fog roles in and I completely lose my sense of direction. We are now running out of daylight. You could not see more than about 40 feet so there was no way to get any landmarks for direction. Finally I found something I had remembered on the top of the mountain and all was well. Next time I am bringing my GPS. I figured there is no way I could get lost at Rower Flats because it is so small. We had parked on the Boquet side so I had to find this one specific trail to get back down to the truck. It was actually kind of exciting.

I have this weird uncanny sense to make notes of my surroundings wherever im at...Havent gotten lost yet...But whos to say I never will? Thats in the wilderness....now put me on a freeway in the middle of LA? You will never see me again and I will most likely not see the light of the next day..

My son and I made a point to note where the trail head back to the car was and made lots of reference points in the distance, problem was when we got back up to the top we could not see more than 40 ft. For instance there is a resevoir down one side of the mountain and all the staging areas on the other but when you can't see those it gets tricky.

GPS, never leave camp without it. My sense of direction is pretty good, but if something were to happen, another rider can get back to camp for help.

crushed a metacarpus, thankfully in the left hand, about half way down a 70Km singletrack in Hungaria, was an interesting ride back on my old XR600, even more interesting the Hungarian doctor in the camp in very broken English told me I bruised my hand, a week later at home the ER doc yelled at me for not showing up earlier

and there was the enduro race in which I tore the ligaments in my left shoulder in a pit accident, when I woke up I was so confused I grabbed my bike and raced on, a few miles down the trail the pain kicked in and I had a spectator give me a ride in the back of my own bike to find the ambulance empty, so I walked 2 miles from the pits to camp, where I found someone willing to give me a ride to the hospital, 30 miles of bumpy backroads

We were riding in a new area and my daughter and I ended up separated from the group. We were so lost and couldn't even tell which way was north. We had to wait till the sun moved so we had shadows to show us east and west to get our bearings. We kinda knew the main roads were to those directions from us. Made it back to camp 4 hours later. Got GPS now.

I was only 15 years old at the time (I am 38 now)and riding a Yamaha 100 enduro. Don't remember what type...just remember it was really heavy!! I was out trail riding in the middle of a hot afternoon and ran out of gas. I was alone and knew if I left the bike my dad would really upset. So, I decided to push the bike home through deep sand and hilly terrain for about 5 miles. OMG.....it took me hours to get home and my parents where worried sick about me. Once I told them what happened, I think they had pity on me and let me lay on the couch for the remainder of the day. :D
