Helmets? Best protection

o.k. it's time for me to buy a new helmet. What have you guys heard as far as protection. I see alot of pros with Shoei, they are one of the more expensive brands and I realize that they also have more features than say an HJC Helmet. But are you receiving better protection or are you just paying more for the graphics/ bells and whistles?

best protection provides the one that fits YOU best
not the one your best buddy has or the one don't-ask-me-which celebrity gets paied for to wear

100% correct I can't agree with you more. I guess I should have asked the question differently which helmet is going to have the strongest shell, who's using the best materials, and of course the best helmet in the world isn't going to do anything for you if it dosen't fit properly

the only one with extra protection is one of the Lazers (LZ5? LZ6? not sure) with an aluminum ring integrated in the shell

what is wrong with an 'only' Snell aproved full-face helmet?
are you planning any funny stunts?

I personally love AXO RX3 or MM Zero carbon, they fit my head and are very lightweight
but did not find them in the US, yet

and judging from the time you wrote the above I just thought you might be a little sleep deprived. And yes, FLY does have some wicked helmets. Their latest (2006) releases are especially neat. I wear their Lite III when I race BMX and I wear an HJC ACX2 when I ride my m/c. Both are good helmets. Though I prefer the looks and the fit of the HJC over the FLY FLY sponsors our BMX team so I'm kinda stuck with their product for that purpose. The fact that they give us a Killer deal on their stuff certainly doesn't hurt either.

There are different helmets and the technology varies depending on brand. Not sure but I think you were looking for some technical insight. There are different materials and the way that they are manufactured. The longer stranded type materials like Kevlar are better. They disperse energy over a greater surface area and are less prone to cracking open. Any bag-molded shell will provide you with the best manufacturing techniques. HJC's CLX-4 uses a bag-molded process with long-stranded material. For around $150, this is probably your best buy. I'm sure that other brands use the same process/technology, you would just have to do some studying. I know, I know homework sucks...but you could cheat and go buy the AC-X line of HJC and get the best of all worlds. Light weight, styling (they come in the ever-popular flat finish), and protection for around $230.

I don't work for or sell HJC, I just used them as an example. I wear them, like them, and I know of their manufacturing and technology processes. Good luck...

oh okay
