    Daughter's minor crash

Ok, I have twin daughters who are 5. They both decided they wanted to ride motorcycles. So they have CRF50's. They have all the gear (more gear than I do!) Well so far they are still learning and they have the training wheels on them to help with balance. We still sit behind them as they just got them in January. So one of them finds the fence a few weeks ago. It scared her more than anything, scratched the fender of the bike and bent the throttle cable. I comforted her and told her it added character to her bike. So the same day she gets back on and rides like it never happened. Well now she will not ride unless either I take her for a ride or unless I put my hands over hers when she is riding. If I move my hands she will coast to a stop and grab the center bar in the middle of the handlebars. So I ask her whats wrong and she consistently states that she doesn't want to crash into the fence again. Any suggestions on how to get her to ride again? Normally I just sit behind her and hold onto the bike so in case they need a little help I can give it. Do you think it's just a case of her needing time to get comfortable again?

    Thanks!!

twin 5 year olds riding...sweet. so, some kids can handle the crashing part of dirt bikes and some can't...time will tell if your twins are. i would do some roll playing (skill development skill training) to help them gain confidence. after showing her how to use the brake and back off the throttle, stand if front of her about 5 feet and be the "fence". tell her to throttle towards you slowly and then tell her to stop. she won't be able to get up enough speed to hurt you if she doesn't get to the brakes and she'll have confidence in you that you'll stop her without her, or her bike, getting hurt. just keep doing this until she realizes that she has control over not hitting the "fence".

good luck and let us know how it goes.

    Ken,

Thanks for the suggestion. I think that sounds like a great idea! My other daugher keeps insisting she is ready to ride by herself without my help. We have little dips in our yard and she tries to do a wheelie over them. The one that is scared loves to ride on my 150 and just insists that I go faster. So I will try it and let you know.

Thanks again for your help! CRF's only rules!
