How bad is FH now? I want to try out my new 06 CRF250X on some real trails and I hear that its half closed due to logging and the trails that are open have been smoothed out and widened and I've seen posts about quads going everywhich way there. I want to take my son somewhere other than Prairie city. We've ridden it to death and he's bored with it and wants something new. He's on a DRZ110 and only been ridding for about 6 mo. so I think Georgetown my be abit much for him. Should I give up on FH for a year or so and just take him to Hollister? Any other places that are not too tough for him in the Sacramento area? Thanks in advance. Kevin

Went to forresthill in oct. 05

I went to forresthill in october. Yes half of the trails were closed for logging! Hope they open in the future. Trails that were still open were still in same condition as previous years. Yes their is a lot of quads, but they can only ride on certain trails. My advice get their in the early morning to get a ride in before the crowds. Still one of the best places to ride in norcal. P.S. visit ranger station to find out about closed trails makes things easier.

You can go to George town, that place is good but the best place to ride bar none is StonyFord. It has great trails and is never closed. L.O.L.

I live in Stockton and for short trips we run to Carnagie. I think it woul be a good place for your son as an alternative to Hollister. Although Hollister does offer mostly one way trails and is market a little better. Carnagie is also smaller than Hollister but not any where as packed. There are a lot of wude trails that will take you any where in the park some pretty fun single track (black diamond) as many tuff hill climbs as you could stand in a day, motocross track mini track quad track, and Skips at Carnigie (till the state runs him out) is one of the finest stocked accessorie stores you will find. you can also do some great riding at Deer Creek at Twain Harte, PiPi is AWESOME if you like single track and there are many fire roads as well. PiPi is about 1 3/4 hour from me up 88 and would have to be my current favorite place to ride/camp.

Clear Creek is actually rated one of the ten best ride areas in the nation. I have riden there since I was on an 80 and would say it is one of the greatest places that I have riden even over PiPi wich I would say is currently my second favorite riding area. A gruop of my friends and I will be headed there the secon weekend in March for a three day trip and I can't wait.

P.S. Ken would be a great CRFsOnly ride spot.

Yeah I would bet it is beautifull there right now. the guys I rode with growing up would always head up to a microwave transmitter atop a peak if you go and can ask around if any one knows where it is.That is a great ride. Another good ride is out to an ol down plane that was left there, although there ain't much left of it now. Any way it really is a cool place. Too bad the environuts are trying to close it. Well 2nd weekend in march, Actually think we are supposed to head up Thur. night 8th I think head out following Sun.
