    Trey Canard - Update

    by crfsonly » Sun Jan 22, 2012 8:51 am

Trey Canard was in a very serious crash last night in the main. He didn't get a good start and was caught up in the middle of the pack. After the second turn there was a large triple. Trey checked up on the triple, doubling it and was landed on by Ryan Morais. Both riders appeared to be seriously injured. Neither was moving and both looked to be unconscious. Both were placed on backboards...never a good sign but everyone was hoping it was precautionary.

Unfortunately, Aaron, Trey’s brother, is reporting that Trey suffered a broken back, T10-12. He’s currently waiting for a second MRI to determine if surgery is required. They say he has moved a toe so everyone is hopeful there’s no paralysis. They also report that he has full memory of the night and the accident. Also good news.

We have not been able to find any creditable news on Ryan's condition (there are reports that he broke his jaw as well as his neck. However, neither is from a family source). Please keep both riders in your prayers.

    Ken

Wow, I couldn't watch the race last night, going to watch today. Wish a total recovery for both of them.

It just seems so wrong!!!! He has so much natural talent, so much love for the sport, so much determination to get up after being knocked down!!

Why do bad things happen to good people???

    Get well soon Trey!!

CBS only shows a blip from the hit, but as Ken said, he was not moving after.

I feel so bad for that kid. So much talent and love for the sport. To imagine him dealing with this on top of his other recent injuries, its got to be hard.

I wish him the best in his recovery.

Honda and family are reporting that he has full feeling in his legs and feet. That's great news.

Always hard to read threads like these, pray for the best but prepare for the worst.

Hope both riders fully recover to race another day!

Take a close look!!! Look how far down Canards head is pushed down. I am willing to bet that his Leatt Brace saved his life!!

Also you can see that Morais is not wearing a neck brace and he has suffered a neck injury!

Just my opinion, neck braces should be mandatory!

Trey Canard’s brother Aaron has been updating his Twitter feed (@airdawg41) to keep fans and the industry in the loop on Trey’s condition. At the moment, Trey is in the hospital awaiting a procedure that will relieve some pressure that is being put on his spine from the fractures to T-10 thru T-12. We hear Trey has movement in all of his limbs and is in great spirits.
