    Heard a rumor...

    by 124 » Thu Feb 12, 2009 12:42 pm

...that a certain trouble maker that used to race a blue 250 is racing the 450's this weekend in San Diego. Could be rustling some feathers if he gets to dicing with any of the players in the class. Nothing to lose right?

He is suspended until next weekend. How could he race this weekend even if it's in the big boy class.

They didn't say anything about being suspended from the 450 class. Maybe he is stepping in for Nick Wey. Not much of an improvement if he is....LOL!

I don't pretend to know the rule book, but an AMA suspension for 2 races would seem to apply to any AMA sanctioned race to me.

Not to mention he has not been a threat in the lites ... be surprised if he even qualified for the SX class.

Correction ... here is a cut and paste from the AMA web site which seems to support 124 & Chris' post:

AMA Racing officials determined today that actions taken by AMA Supercross Lites West Championship Series rider Jason Lawrence at the San Francisco round of the series violated the terms of his existing probationary status, which began on June 12, 2008. Lawrence has therefore been suspended for the next two rounds of the 2009 AMA Supercross Lites West Championship Series.

Ahh ok I guess i was reading it like a AMA event in general not just the Lites side. He probably won't even qualify for the night show.

yea, but the drama doesn't add anything to the race.

personally, i like seeing the top riders do their smack talking with their riding ability. all the trash talk add nothing to the race, nor does it show their ability to rider better (or worse) than the other guy.

although, i'd be happier if my favorite rider was winning more than he has been. hmmm, 'has been'...i think i am going to have to face that my favorite rider must just be a 'has been' - let's face it, the riders today are so incredibly fast - not sure how you couldn't enjoy watching a race.

call me crazy but in my mind nothing beats a good ol Bob Hannah race from years gone by.

Could be nostalgia settling in but watching Hannah, Ward, Johnson, Bailey was way better

Those were great races. If you can sift through all the BS, Mototalk has a dude on there that has A LOT of old races and posts them electronically on the site.

IMO - I hope J-law does race the 450 class. And I hope he does get in there and shuffle things a bit. Change is good and I think anything to get in Stewart's way to make it a better race is welcomed. Over here anyway...

I hate hearing how "Chad made it a good race..." Yeah...8 seconds behind you James!!!! mf'er...lol.

    I'm with you.
It's because they were better. There were a lot more guys who could win, not just a couple.
    I was looking at a program from a Trans-AMA race in 1976.
    Hannah,Smith,Glover,Weinert,Tripes,Barnett,Mikkola,Wolsink,Lackey,DeCoster,Pomeroy,Weil...Wow.
Show me a modern era race with a total of 10 riders in one race who either had been or would be an AMA and/or World Champion in one race ?
Motocross has never seen anything close since.
Then to get to the Johnson/Ward/Bailey/O'Mara era, almost the same deal.
Modern training methods and bikes are better, but nobody can make a convincing argument a far as I'm concerned that says todays talent poool is even close to either the 70's or 80's. Doug

Usually I agree with you Doug, but uggghhh...
I think what we are seeing is the 2 riders in front are just that much better...
