    Rear Fenders

Does anyone know if a Rear fender(with the led brake lights in it) from 2016 crf450X will fit a 2016 crf450R? Pics if you've already done it to your bike would be helpful. Thanks!

As far as I know the 16 450X has the same fender as the 05+ , the subframe would be different and more importantly , the airbox , I have heard (but not confirmed) that a 250X fender can be made to fit with some trimming ... but .... the issue is the airbox is different on the X and that is what the fender bolts to .... so I am going to say , you might be able to make it work , but how close or good it will look/fit (the 450X or the 250X) I have no clue ... What I would do is try to find a cheap used one on EBay , and try it and see what you get , at least that way , it is cheap so you are not out a bunch on a new one , and you can cut away to see if you can make it work

I hear ya.... for $37 I may just buy a new one a try. I have a few other things to do first, time will tell. If I get to it I’ll report back. Thanks

I am guessing you don't want the X because of the weight ???? ...... I personally do not notice the weight while moving , going real slow , a little , falling and needing to pick the bike back up , definitely , and jumping it slams pretty hard , but off road , I have zero worries with it , on the tightest single track , or wide open desert .... and it already has a light .... and the button , which of itself is a big difference from the R as far as sitting on a sidehill trying to kick it without falling over or getting a good kick ....

On the GP track where I ride my R (kind of like a old school 70's MX with a bit of off road thrown in), my X does great and is pretty fast on it ... I go much faster on my 20 , but when I had my 02 , there was little difference between it and my X ... my 20 is a whole other level , but against a non current Gen R , it holds its own .. a bunch of Baja championships can't be wrong ...

Well I wanted an X, but came across a deal I couldn’t pass up. Looking to get it road legal so I can ride dirt roads and class 4 roads/trails. I won’t be hitting the pavement much at all. It’s been 15+ years since I’ve had a bike, always had 250 2’s... this 450 is a whole different animal!

OK , got ya . Yea , the even newer 450's are even more of a difference from the Gen you have , I love my 20 , but I would not want to ride it on single track , its way too serious a bike for that ... my X does great with anything non serious ..... my 02 was a great trail bike once I added a flywheel weight (I also added one to my 20 to tame it down a bit , way too much compression braking and way too much torque) , the flywheel weight made the 02 so much more single track friendly , it took 90% of the stalling away ... I highly recommended adding a flywheel or flywheel weight to a 450 MX bike on trails , the weight makes the stalling almost disappear , and adds to clutch life because you are not constantly feathering it to keep from stalling it ...

As far as the tail light goes , have you thought about something like this for the rear fender ?? .

Ya I've thought about the flywheel.....would be nice to eliminate stall, since the woods riding can be tough at times. Sucks stalling in a tricky hill spot, no electric start gives you a challenge! I got a new stator that puts out 70 watts, should be enough to run some lights. As far as the tail light I just bought one that Moose makes...small low profile. Haven't had time to start converting it all over yet, life's busy busy.

Yea , sometimes you have to add stuff a little at a time to get what you want , and it is not always exactly what you wanted .. , but the flywheel weight will definitely make a huge difference , it made my 02 a pleasure to ride in single track , not as luggable as my X , but pretty close , I believe the flywheel weight worked out to making it a 35oz flywheel , I believe the stock was around 22oz , which I believe was the lightest flywheel of the Honda 450's, 35oz is the heaviest you can get and the bike was about 30 lbs. lighter even with the 3.2 tank than the X with a 3.2 .... only downside was as you mentioned , stalling in a bad location and trying to kick it when in a awkward position and being tired on top of that , but it was rare to do that after the weight .... the X you just push a button and never break a sweat ... I have ridden both bikes in some gnarly stuff , and both did well , the R was easier to overheat though , even with a overflow bottle ... nothing beats a radiator fan that auto runs and keeps your bike from overheating , but you need a battery for that ... it's always a compromise
