I went for buying a used crf 450 2005. It has a good price, the meter says 105mh, obviously I dont know it is true or not. Seems to start and run good, however its very cold and there is some snow, so it was impossible to take a proper ride. The only thing i dont like was the sound, what do you think ?

Obviously it's hard to diagnose anything by sound over the internet but it sounds like a normal Honda CRF 450 to me. They are not the crispest or quietest 4 strokes out there. Add a full aluminum skid / sump plate and you will really hear the engine talking to you when you are riding. Rubber added to the inside of a skid plate makes a huge difference to noise reduction.

Check the whole bike over structurally, do an oil change on the engine and transmission and go have fun. They are great bikes !

So i shouldn't be afraid of that chucking noise ? I though its timing chain or valves. As for now i left some money but havent bought it yet.

If you are unsure - maybe go check out another CRF 450 and listen to it. It is too hard to tell over the internet if the engine has any abnormalities from your sound video. They are a noisy engine comparative to some of the other brands and if you have not been around modern 4 strokes. Even the old Honda 4 strokes were not super quiet and rather mechanical sounding.

Your the one buying it so you have to make the decision.

Like Neil mentioned , a lot of people post "listen to this" videos , but in all honesty , its very hard to diagnose over a video , without actually physically being there or unless there is obvious chaos going on inside the engine , there is not a lot that we can say with any accuracy , like he said , these engines are noisy , i personally did not hear anything abnormal in that video , but again as Neil mentioned , your the one buying a bike , so ultimately the decision is yours , the question is , if you do decide to buy and it turns out to need a rebuild , are you prepared for that expense along with the cost of the bike ?? , those factors may lead you to look elsewhere , or take the plunge , again , its your pocket that is going to be affected here , so if you are questioning the mechanical stability of the engine , maybe that is a sign to keep searching , i am sure its not the only 450 (Honda or otherwise) in your area at a decent price , so its not like you are forced to only buy that one or go without

If your questioning it enough to take , then post a video , you might have answered your own question already and just haven't realized it yet , like Neil said , go listen to "other" CRF's and decide from there , they may all sound the same as that one .... if not , then maybe one of the others is the one you should seek , or just keep looking ....... There are always deals out there , all you need to do is find the right one for you ...

Thank you all for the answers ! I heared my friends crf 250 2009 and it sounds with way less additional noises, however i dont know is there should be a difference because of engine capacity or year. Another thing is that this bike has a really good price and in my country people never say truth, so its always a lottery if you are going to buy a good or a bad one. As for now i watched some youtube videos and I think that the problem is going to be the cam chain. Also it would be nice to check the valves. Im just not sure how bad it was if they were riding it with stretched cam chain.

In reference to the cam chain noise , it would be impossible to diagnose with the video , since you had the camera on the clutch side and not the ignition side where the timing chain is , as far as 250 vs 450 , yes they will sound somewhat different just due to mass , but overall , noisy is noisy .... like i mentioned , if you feel comfortable with possibly doing a engine teardown and replacing suspected parts , and its within your expected budget versus finding a "quieter" bike elsewhere , then go ahead and get it , but don't expect it to be a $50.00 fix , just as long as you are aware that it could end up costing as much as you paid for the bike to repair it , so with that considered , its basically up to you at this point , if better options are not available in your area (thinking overall cost , not just initial purchase price) , then do what you feel comfortable doing , basically most anything can be fixed , weather its more cost effective to fix it rather than trying to find something that does not need fixing and overall would be in the same or close price range , is something you will have to decide ......... Thank you for the answer. I spend these two days on checking youtube and forums to find the right answer. I found a lot of content with a very similar noises, however most of the time despite the people efforts to fix it, it ended as the sound is normal, cause these hondas just are ment to sound like that. In my case, I spent too much time in searches for the right choice, where I live its a lottery, so i decided to take a risk. I will inform everyone about its condition when im going to get it and check things like valves, cam chain and its tensioner.
