    Exhaust valve clearance too loose?

    by fox128 » Mon May 29, 2017 8:33 am

Hey all, newbie to the forum with a question on valves of course.....
Got a 2009 CRF 450 recently with a timbersled kit and put the wheels on to ride and thought I'd better check the valves. It has a fastheads head and stage 2 hotcam on it among other things. The intakes were right in spec at .06 and .07, but the exhaust were 2-3 thousandths too wide. Is this something I had better adjust right away? the bike runs absolutely amazing.....after I get it started which can be a real bear. I know tight intake valves can cause starting problems but don't know if loose exhaust would do the same or cause other issues. Thanks!

You should tighten those clearances up. Honda dumbed down the spec to protect people from themselves anyway.
I run my intakes at .045 and exhaust at .009. Less slamming together of the drivetrain.
