2016 CRF 450 R, STAND ALONE PROGRAMMER OR DYNO TUNING?

I have a built 16 450 R I am going to be racing hill climbs with. I had the head ported, and a stage 2 Hot cam, with a single sided Rocket exhaust with oversize core and and outlet. My question comes from whether it would be better to get a standalone fuel and ignition programmer such as a vortex or if my local race shop with a dyno machine and the HRC tuning tool could get better results for me and I could use the stock selectable ignition and fi selector with the two tunes I have them put in for MR12 and T4. I understand the 3rd map will stay as the factory map and can be unchanged. What are the benefits to both and which will allow me to reach my optimal horsepower??

    Welcome to CRF's Only!

You asked a lot of questions both explicitly and implicitly. I'll attempt to answer them all.

    1. The Honda programmer allows you to set both ignition and fuel so it gives you the flexibility to create a perfect map for your needs.
    2. Whether or not your local race shop as the knowledge to provide you the perfect map for your needs is another question. Also, what is a "perfect map for your needs"? Your needs can change based external factors (environment such as soil, moisture and temperature) as well as internal factors (rider and motor mods).
    3. The Tokyo Mods has the advantage of more maps. This allows you to test and find the few maps that work best for you under different conditions. They can be reprogrammed but not as easily accomplished as the stock ECU.
    4. Either can achieve optimal horsepower.

    Hope this helps.
