    2009 450R Motor?

    by RockstarSMP » Fri Feb 05, 2016 8:47 pm

Sorry if this is somewhere in here already covered, but I'm supposed to put a deposit on a friend's '09 this weekend, and another buddy just told me he heard from his neighbor that the 2009 FI motor was riddled with problems.

I know about the pin in the top end, and the shock linkage too. Those are already solved on this bike, so they're not an issue.

What I'm wondering is if there are any other weird, possibly catastrophic problems? Thanks!

I dont think there are any "catastrophic" problems , just a lot of "quirks" that were more sorted out in the 10's,11's,12's, etc , the 15's and 16's are pretty good

But as a whole , its just mainly handling quirks that plague the 09 more than anything , besides fuel pump issues (they have a upgraded fuel pump for that fix as well) , stiffer fork springs (if your in the target weight the bike was set from the factory for stiffer fork springs will fix the knifing/diving/unstable in corner issue) , if your heavier you need to re-spring it anyway , if your lighter then the stock springs will be about right , with the linkage and spring fix , the bike is ok

Its not a bad bike , just needs fine tuning with the parts that the later years now have

    Hope that helped some

Cool, thanks. Other than maybe the fuel pump, the other issues are already sorted on this bike.

Appreciate it, time to watch SX!!
