Can you take some of the bite out of a 450R ?

    Hello,

Over the next month, I'm going to buy a 2nd bike :)

Keeping my modded 250X for trail rides, but I'm going to enter some vet class MX, for the most part club day stuff.
As I already do 150 hours PA on the X, and is set up for trail rides, really want something else for the track (this would also help drop some of the X's hours)

Main 3 I'm looking at, all 2016 models, 250R, YZ250F and the new KTM. And have demo/demo days lined up over the next few weeks.

As a wild card, a guy that rides with us, is looking at selling his 15 450R (total 10 hours, never has the time to get out with us)

When he first got it, I did try it, but hated the forks, he tells me they were just set up wrong and has that sorted now, and can have another go.

But, 450 is still more than I was really looking for, but could get it for a song and know how it's been riden/true hours.
So can some of the sting be taken out of the 450R, for a vet c (b on a good day) rider looking for a bit of club day fun ?
If so, whats the best way of doing it ?

If it matters, 42 years old, 210 lbs in gear (191 with out), little over 6ft 1 and fit.

    Thanks Dean

Yes, the ECM can be remapped to tame it down some. A heavier flywheel can be added as well. You can also replace the throttle with one with a slower ratio. All of these will help. However, you can not escape the fact there are 450cc's of Formula One engine technology in that frame.

    Thanks Ken,

Had my first club day today, I now know for sure I don't want the 450 lol

Sure, a few Kgs off would be nice, and a bit more zip, but a lot more skill would help a lot more.
I'll stick to looking for a deal on a 250 MX bike.
