i have oil spraying out of camchain tensioner

    by tmac450 » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:30 am

So I picked up an 04 crf450r and after driving it for a bit I noticed oil all over the engine.i cleaned it up and found it was coming out the end of my timing chain tensioner where the screw in the center should be. So do I just need to put a new screw in there or does the whole part need replaced? Or is it an even bigger problem than that causing the leak? And Thanks for any info I can get on this.

New screw or bolt. I think there's also a washer.

It should be a flange headed bolt , you will see a notch about 1/16" from the threaded hole , this is where the O-Ring goes

Your best bet is to get a used Tensioner on EBay , this way you have the correct bolt and O-Ring , of you use a incorrect length bolt it will interfere with the actuation of the tensioner adjuster and create bigger issues than a oil leak
