    Which Cam 05 CR450R

    by RDS540 » Tue Jun 23, 2015 8:12 am

I'm looking at putting a new cam in my 05 Crf450R

I like the specs of the 2002 450r cam.

I couldnt find any specs on the 08 450r is it any good?

Ive also read mixed reviews about the HotCams is the stage 1 worthy, or should I stick to OEM?

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

Private Message Ken , the owner of this site , he can tell you what R cams do what as far as power delivery , torque , etc , and he sells them all here (he also sells the HotCams)

.............Look for a post with crfsonly as the poster , and click on that name (it will be red like i posted to the left of this) , and send him a PM...............

I have the 02 cam in my 02 450R , and for me it works great for off road , and MX , it seems (at least to me) to give power everywhere , but it really shines best in Mid Range , its hard to keep the front end down if your in the middle of the throttle , grab a handful , and it will really wake up , on my 02 i also have a 13oz flywheel weight (equal to a 35ounce flywheel , the heaviest you can have) , i ride my 02 on the MX track , in the desert , and in tight single track in the woods , the bike does well in all of it and rarely stalls unless i do something stupid

As far as Hotcams Stage 1 goes , what are you specifically wanting out of the cam ?? , if your going to do tight single track or Endurocross , then it will be great (i have one in my 450X and love it) , it lacks the top end of the stage 2 and 3 , but it is designed for bottom/mid power ONLY , so if you want any top end punch , it wont be there , , but as i mentioned , if your looking for low end grunt/torque and mid range torque , then you will love it

Stage 1 falls off on top end ...basically no or less top end power than a stock cam

Stage 2 will give you Mid range and Top end power , but not as much bottom as the Stage 1 , but will have more top end than stock

Stage 3 is pretty much a top end cam , it has some mid range torque , but will keep pulling till you let off , but has NO BOTTOM end power at all compared to the stage 2 or 1

    Hope that helped !! ;)

    Thanks.

After reading the cam specs and what others are running. I decide to try the oem 02 450r cam.
