    carburetor leaking gas/fuel line

    by 2727BCracing » Fri Feb 27, 2015 7:16 pm

My 2004 crf450r is leaking gas out of the carburetor where the fuel line brass fitting is plumbed into the carb. I would post a picture bUT my phone won't allow me to. I looked up a rebuild kit for my carb and it doesn't look like it comes with a o ring for that spot. I have good mechanical skill and I can't figure it out. Someone has to of had this problem and fixed it already let me know the answer. [/list]

I had that happen on my YZ at the fuel petcock. The brass nipple was a press fit for seal and came loose. I removed the nipple and cleaned both surfaces then used 2 part epoxy for the sealing areas. Then inserted the nipple to the original depth.
Never had another problem after that. I suspect the filling into the carb is the same design ?

That gives you an option if no one here has had the same problem as yours.

Did you pull the fitting / nipple and see that is the case ? I have seen carbs that the fuel inlet is o-ring seal so that it can swivel, but not often.

I use Dexter Epoxi-Patch 9340 gray. It is incredible stuff ! Loctite 510 sealant would be another option.

That stuff puts two pieces together for all of eternity under any conditions ! Loctite 510 is for when you want something locked together and never ever never will need it apart. I know that because I had to take something apart once after using it...

Note for 2727 - after riding today I took a closer look at my fuel inlet to the carb on my "X". I believe it has an O-ring to make the seal allowing it to swivel. It is not like most bikes I have worked on which are press fit. That being the case you would want to replace the O-ring not epoxy it in place.

Just info. The "R" may be a press fit ?

Correct , it has O-Rings and you do NOT want to epoxy it , you can go to the Honda Dealer or just the local auto parts store and get a small O-Ring kit for a few bucks , just undo the screw at the rear of the carb , than it will pull out easily , then replace the O-Ring , (i would put grease on it so it slides in easily and it will help keep the gas from drying it out) , put it in all the way , and put the screw back in and go ride
