    2004 crf450r oils?

    by steze_heez » Tue May 13, 2014 2:13 pm

i have been looking allover and cant find a solid answer.

    2004 crf450R

What oil should i run in my bike, i like the idea of one oil for both compartments like
rotella 5w40 or 15w40 in both if i want to go cheap,
or maybe mobile 1 15w40 ?? what would you recommend.

Or if i go separate in each compartment should i go heavy like a 70w in transmission? and a 10w40 or so in the engine

also i hear the 2004 crf valves like to give out so is there any oil out there can can keep them safer?

the engine was rebuilt and shimmed 2 tanks ago then sat for a year due to injury then the guy sold it to me

the bike starts up, runs and rides great.

I use Rotella T6 (synthetic - blue bottle)5w-40 in both sides of my 02 450R and my 06 450X , its good for cooler and warm temps , been doing that for about 5 years with no issues

As far as valves go , no oil is going to prevent wear , the only thing that helps is if you go to Stainless Intakes (and matching springs) instead of Titanium , i put them in my 450X 8 years ago and have not had to adjust them since , i just put them in my 450R a month ago

alright i am going to grab some of that rotella T6 for both sides, thanks for your input!

and not to sure if the previous owners installed good valves or not, is there any markings on valves that would indicate original or aftermarket that i could see in stages of valves adjustment

No there is not any way to physically look and see what type valves they are by way of a label or stamp or marking , but if you remove the shim and look at the valve stem you can sometimes tell , if its dark almost burnt looking its Titanium if its normal metal/steel looking its most likely Stainless

A magnet might work , but it does not always mean its Titanium if it does not stick

Titanium Intakes are non magnetic , but so are some of the Stainless Intakes , though some might have some light magnetic pull so its not fool proof

If your adjusting them , then i would guess they are Titanium and are on their way out , so now would be a good time to start looking for new Intakes and sending the head in , then you can get what you want and will know what you have (they do nice head work here)

If your not racing seriously then Stainless is the way to go , with a matching spring kit , they will last for a long time , i have Stainless Intakes in my bikes , the 450X has been together since 06 and has not gone out of adjustment yet if that says anything for them

You can race with them , but they tend to float sooner in the RPM's than Titanium will so if your a rev-ver , i would go with Titanium and Beryllium seats to up the longevity
