New to the forum wondering if anyone out there has had this problem before. I bought this 02 450r last summer after riding a few weeks (less then 10 hrs) I had cam trouble and bent exhaust valves. I replaced both and started it up still heard some rattling. I found a crack in my cylinder and replaced that. Started it up sounds fine everything's great. Then today I started it up for an actual ride. Rode for a few minutes before it started dying, it will run and after it dies it's easy to start again but it will start acting like it's not getting a gas in short lapses until it completely dies and I roll to a stop. Also if I coast to a stop it will die. Though it will idle fine. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Thanks.

Sounds like it could be one of a few issues or a combination of a few issues

Start with this:

You did not mention if you cleaned or replaced the jets , or even pulled the carb and/or float bowl to make sure its not "green" inside and that everything is clear

Have you checked to determine if the float level is correct ?

Have you eliminated the Kill Switch/button from being bad by unplugging it and riding ?

Have you eliminated debris in the tank pickup ?

Have you made sure that the vent on the gas cap is clear ?

Did you put in FRESH PREMIUM gas ?? (these bike dont like old gas , **longer than 2 months old**), and wont run on Regular worth a crap if they will start at all on Regular , "FRESH" 91 octane or better

This should give you some things to eliminate ! , hope that helps ...I have never had any issue like that with my 02

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to pull my carb and clean it somtime in the next few days. Have not checked float level. I have it wired to a key switch and it idles fine. Only when I ride does it die. As far as debris in the tank again it idles fine. Yes i rode it with gas cap off and still had problems. The gas has been sitting for a few months. I'll drain the tank and fill it with fresh. Thanks again.

No problem , hopefully it will be one of the things i mentioned , though it could be a intermittent electrical problem , which will be harder to trace out , but usually a CDI or Stator issue , it will not start right back up ,that is why i am looking at possible fuel issues
