exhaust end cap removal. Any suggestions.

    by curryd » Tue Apr 01, 2014 4:00 pm

I have a 2014 450r. I am trying to install the pro billet end caps so i can have spark arrestors. Folling instructions, I drilled the rivets. They say they put a sealant on them and could be hard to remove. They said to cut it with a sharp blade and apply heat to it to make it easier.

I have done this but still wont budge. Tapping it with a mallet doesnt work. I have dented it trying to remove them.

Any thougts on how to get them out?

When you drilled them , did you remove whatever did not fall inside ?? , if there is any of the rivet remaining it will hold the end in place , it should be a clean hole with no rivet pieces remaining , it should be at least loose enough so you can slightly rock it back and forth , also try inserting the mallet handle or a screwdriver handle in the end and see if you can wiggle it that way , try to use one close to the size of the hole

Rvets are completely drilled through. I even stuck a blade between the two pieces of metal to make sure no burrs were left. I have never had any issues on other bikes with this. I have looked at the schematic. Its hollow. It will move a 1/16".

    Need some ideas asap!i

a heat gun (not a blow dryer) will soften the adhesive. you'll still have to beat on them pretty good and yes it will damage the end caps.
