i recently ran into a guy on the trails that took his new crf450r and made it street legal. has anyone else done this to a mx bike? I have an 09 250r and I want to get a street legal 450r.. Is it a hard conversion? thanks

It really isn't that hard to do, you will need to upgrade your stator, I beleive to a 200 Watt, You can have it rewound or buy a new one.
Depending on what state you live depends how much stuff you need to put on, in Colorado blinkers are not required but this stuff is

Head light, low & high beam
Tail light with License plate light
    Brake light
    Mirror
    Horn
    DOT tires

    Good luck
    I didn't vote for him

Google requirements or even if it is possible in your state and go from there. The build is easy and you will need an upgraded stator to run the required lighting system. TrailTech is what I used in mine... oh and a battery... get one of the compact lithium ion units so you can stuff it somewhere out of the way. But check to find out whether it can be done in your state before you go out of pocket for anything.

I didn't need a battery on my 450R, the new stator should supply plenty of power to run the head light & tail light

If the stock stator will power a headlight, you can buy kits that will use an external battery pack (like a couple of AA batteries) to power the turn signals, tail light, and horn.

As others have said, check your State. Some are very minimal, others (CA anyone) are too strict to make it possible.

Which stator did you buy, and what Voltage Regulator/Rectifier are you using?

this bike was set up by the previous owner, that being said, I have no idea what stator he was running. I can tell you that this bike did not have a battery on it.

I turned my 2011 450R into a street legal machine. It has an upgraded trail tech stator, Trail tech battery pack, a wiring harness from Vancouver SM, and currently running a KTM EXC headlight.

Not the clearest picture, but its the best side shot I have.
