    Hard Starting COLD

    by 450man574 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 2:04 pm

I had no problems Starting this Cold before I Did the AP Mod. Now when I give it 2-3 Hits of the Throttle it won't Start. Wondering if the MOD is Putting to Much Fuel in Now. Anyone Else Have this Problem. Seems to Backfire when I try to start it

Giving it 2-3 hits is putting too much fuel in, not the mod.

I never touch the throttle when I start the bike, EVER.

I have always hit it 3 times, started like a Dream, 1-2 kicks. Going riding today, will try no throttle.

I've got an '05, with totally redone head/valves, perfect clearances, spark & compression and the bike will only bump start when cold. Could it be the AP?
I've bumped up the pilot jet too in order to help with the fuel.

I know this is an older thread but I'm going to start here because I'm having a similar issue and it is driving me nuts. I have an 08 450x. Newer rebuild SS valves which are in spec. The issue is the beast will not start cold with the kicker EVER!! Some idiot forgot to but the battery tender on (me) and I had to try kicking it this morning. I stopped when I had a blister on my foot. The odd thing for me is... Once it is started even for 30 seconds you can kill it and it will fire immediately.
I do suspect I have some AP issues as I have the flame out issue off idle occasionally. Thats not going to keep it from starting though... right?
    Thoughts are appreciated!!
